From the Greek word "KARKINOS", in Bengali" KANKARA"(crab), the origin of the word " CANCER" in English. In AYURVEDA, it is called "KARKATA ROG". Cancer does not mean a single disease. It means many kinds and types of MALIGNANT NEOPLASM. Like most of other diseases caused by external germ, cancer is not like that. For some unknown reasons, cancer develops and grows through a special change (MALIGNANT change) within its own cells without following any rules (of MUTATION). Physician Hippocratic also found the presence of cancer amongst his patient on and about 430-377 BC. CHARAKA & SUSHRUTA respectively mention CANCER and a kind of treatment method in 8th and 6th centuries BC.
