Backyard Expressions Decorative Metal Garden Bird Bath with Leaf Accent Pedestal - Antique Bronze Finish

A bird bath slim enough to slip into the border, and tall enough that you will still see every visitor. Birds go to water where they already feel at home, tucked near the shrubs and perennials they move through all day, and that is rarely a place with room for a concrete pedestal. This one stakes in instead. Three legs push into a flower bed, a border or a patch of lawn and hold the bath steady, and the slim black stem with its pair of leaf accents reads as part of the planting rather than a stand set down in it. Put it beside the daylilies this season. Move it across the yard next season without a wheelbarrow. The 12 inch bowl lifts straight out of its cradle, so fresh water is a minute's work: tip it, rinse it, set it back. It is broad and shallow with a gently sloped floor, deep enough at the center to drink from and shallow enough at the edges for finches, chickadees and wrens to stand in and bathe. The bowl is steel, finished in a hand-brushed bronze wash over black, so the strokes catch the evening light and no two look quite alike. The stem and legs stay matte black and disappear into the foliage. At 35 inches tall it is easy to see from a window and keeps the water above a pet's reach, and the 12 inch bowl fits a border, a corner bed or a narrow side yard where a full pedestal bath would crowd everything around it. Set it near cover but not directly beneath it, fill to about an inch and a half, and change the water every couple of days. A small floating solar fountain will sit in the bowl if you would like moving water later. Drain it and bring it in before the first hard freeze.

• PLANT IT LIKE A PERENNIAL: Birds come to water near the shrubs and flowers they already spend time in, and that is rarely a spot with room for a heavy base. This one stakes into a bed, a border or open lawn on three legs, and moves just as easily when the garden changes.
• FRESH WATER IN A MINUTE: The 12 inch bowl sits in a cradle rather than bolting down, so you can lift it out, tip it, rinse it and set it back in one motion. A bath that is easy to freshen up tends to get freshened up, and the birds notice.
• DEEP ENOUGH TO DRINK, SHALLOW ENOUGH TO BATHE: The bowl is broad and gently sloped, so finches, chickadees, wrens and cardinals can step in and bathe rather than only sipping from the edge. It is the depth small birds are comfortable with.
• HIDES IN PLAIN SIGHT: The slim black stem carries a pair of leaf accents partway up, so it reads as part of the bed rather than a stand in it, and the steel bowl wears a hand-brushed bronze wash over black that catches the light in the evening.
• BIG WELCOME, SMALL FOOTPRINT: At 35 inches tall with a 12 inch bowl, it stands above low plantings and keeps the water out of a pet's reach, while fitting a border, a corner bed or a narrow side yard where a full pedestal bath would crowd everything around it.
